Answered prayers...

Here we are in beautiful Wyoming after a long day of travel. Because we've had what we consider to be day trips up to this point, we put the pedal to the metal and drove. The speed limit out here is pretty high, too, so that helps us make good time.
I thought I grew up in the middle of nowhere, but I'm sure we just spent the day there, driving through northern Nevada (very dry, not very pretty) and Utah (much prettier and foliage-ier).
Oh wait--let me bring you all up to date.
As soon as I finished the last post, Nathan arrived from the shop with good news: they didn't find a single thing wrong with the car, and said that it was in great condition (thanks, Nathan and High Road!). AND this shop that he went to was one that he had seen from a mechanics' magazine, and realized what a great shop we had been led to. The Lord indeed answered our many prayers that we would make it to a shop and that they would be a reputable place. The guys there told us to keep driving and if we break down, at least then we'll have a problem that will be easy to diagnose. After spending the morning running tests, they were unable to come up with any conclusive diagnosis.
So, we raced around the room, packing to make the noon check out time and got on the road. We decided to swing by Lake Tahoe and we were not disappointed. The great thing about this country is that there is so much beauty everywhere and by not going to the southwest, we've gotten to see this part of the country, that we've not seen before.

Amos gets his wiggles out by inspecting the steering wheel. (Don't worry, the car is not on!)

Our view of Lake Tahoe at dinner.

Welcome to Nevada!

After a great dinner overlooking the lake, we drove to Carson City (capitol of Nevada) and stayed at a Best Western there that had a casino in the first floor. That was crazy. The next morning, as we were leaving, we wanted to take a picture next to the machines. But we didn't get to, because we were asked to leave on the account of Amos, who is not allowed to play the slots yet. (who knew?) Even more, we were not allowed to take an unauthorizd picture of the casino, so we left, laughing to ourselves and were glad to leave the grimey place behind!

...so we took a picture with the sign that says "casino!"

Amos is happy to find his dad!

The great Salt Lake.

Amos up on all fours--he'll be crawling soon!

Like I said, our drive today has been good. We pushed really hard to get this far, making minimal stops and I think we are all ok. Amos had a tough time taking his last nap, I think due to the minimal amount of wiggling he's been doing. But he's doing great otherwise. I am sitting in the back seat with him, to feed him easier and then just talk and hang out with him. I feel like with everything that was going on these last weeks, that it's great to just sit and hang out with him. I've gotten to practice signing with him and now he's a pro at "please!" He even was reaching for a toy and was signing at the same time. So great! When we stop at night, he gets his wiggles out by rolling/army crawling around the room. He's also getting really good at being up on all fours and rocking back and forth. It's exciting to see him grow!

We enjoyed the terrain in Utah and look forward to driving through Wyoming and Nebraska tomorrow. Our room tonight is very cool, with an adjacent jacuzzi room! We now hope to make it to Indy by Friday and hopefully unpack Saturday. Of course, this is all as the Lord wills...

take comfort in the knowledge that you are not the only ones experiencing car difficulties. friday afternoon, gordon gave up the ghost. well, not quite, but his clutch did. in a cue for a dedicated left turn arrow which had just turned green, i popped him into gear. three seconds later, the clutch peddle gave out and dropped all the way to the floor beneath my foot, and the rpms sank into a hideous death rattle. we have yet to tell dear gordon that his picture has been posted on craig's list. he may currently be found mourning at the bottom of our driveway, and i think that is due in large part to the fact that he senses you guys are no longer around...
we read your blog and fight hard against the notion that you are just on an extended family vacation. we all miss you guys very much already.
