Rest in Peace

This week, amongst the fun and folly, our dog at home, Jake, passed away. He was battling a spinal condition in his old age and finally had to be put down. Monday night we held a "Jake Wake" by drinking Budweiser at the end of the driveway. He was a good dog, very obedient and happy. He will be missed, as we've had him for the last 15 years.

Jake and Pixie hang out at the Meeksarosa, May 2006.

And today, our red front door was cut out, to be replaced by the new door that Nathan worked so hard to stain (again). My mom painted that door red last September on their visit when Amos was home from the hospital. Again, it will be missed!

We love you, red door!

There was New York Jake, a butcher boy
He was always getting tight.
And every time that he got full
He was always hunting a fight.
One night he run up against a knife
In the hands of old Bob Kline
And over Jake they held a wake
In the days of '49.
