We drove up to Chicago on Friday morning to do a few things while there: see the city and the lake, go to IKEA and most importantly, see our dear friend Ian, who was in town to play with his band, Detachment Kit. Mike and Julie let us borrow their suburban to take with us so we'd have plenty of space for our new stuff!
The drive went well, Amos slept most of the time. We talked about what furniture we wanted to buy and overall, enjoyed riding together a beautiful and sunny fall day. We also made really good time, arriving sooner than we thought. We also gained an hour, which was helpful. We picked up Ian at a Kinko's in a really old and cool part of town. He took us to a pizza place, as we were instructed by a friend here to get "Chicago-style pizza." We ordered and waited the 35 minutes it took to cook the pizza. Amos got a bit restless but it was great to hang out and catch up with Ian and have some tasty pizza! The pizza was very very deep, with a huge crust and lots of cheese. After that, we went over to a spot to look at Lake Michigan and let Amos crawl around. There was a ramp built into the cement so Amos enjoyed crawling up and down it, and climbing where he could. After a bit, Amos started to get cold, so we headed back to the warm car and took Ian to the site of the gig. Then we headed to the hotel and IKEA to check out the things we had picked out in the catalog.

We got there and saw that alot of the items we had picked out (of course) were not what they seemed in the catalog, so we took the night to talk about what we wanted to do and to look elsewhere online to see what the options were. By Saturday morning, we were back to IKEA and wanted to get stuff there. We figured, it's cheap and we're entering the small children phase. Everything is going to be ruined in 10 years, anyway! We also decided to rent a U-Haul trailer so we could pick up a couch, as well! We ended up needing the extra space, so we were happy that the trailer worked out. We got the red cordoroy couch, and can't wait to put it in the new house.
After five or six hours of being there, (yes, we ate dinner!) we packed the car and headed home. Packing took awhile and driving took awhile. But Amos and I both napped on the way home and then I helped Nathan unload the trailer and car so we could return the trailer the next day. Overall, it was a good trip. Super good to see Ian, and lots of fun buying furniture!

We can totally relate to the IKEA hypnosis and you're right about the phase of life, maybe we should call it the IKEA Phase....glad to hear you all are getting ready for your place and doing well.
